PLANTING INSTRUCTIONS
The santol is reproduced by seeds, air-layering, inarching, or by budding onto self rootstocks. Santol Trees can be grown in all 50 states simply by bringing indoors before temps drop below 40 degrees and providing lots of light. Most tropical fruit trees like Santol Trees are very fast growing and easier to maintain than domestic fruit trees.  A well draining soil is of primary importance as Santol Trees roots do not like to be wet and will rot if allowed to sit in water for extended periods. A mixture of soil, sand and perlite is highly recommended for proper drainage. Santol Trees prefer bright light and direct sun. If possible 12 hours of bright sun light is best for growth and fruit production though we have gotten remarkable results growing these trees in 30% shade year round.

Santol trees are a favored ornamental home garden variety and are used in larger cities for their widespread limbs, providing shade along roadway.

Santol fruits range in shape from round to oval and are somewhat flattened. The skin is leathery, wrinkled, a little fuzzy, and ripens from green to golden yellow. It may also occasionally have a crimson blush on it. Depending on the type, the thickness of the peel beneath the surface can range from thin and fibrous to thick and spongy. The pulp of santol fruits ranges in colour from clear to white. The pulp is juicy, slick, and soft, and has a consistency similar to cotton. Depending on their maturity, santol fruits are tasty.
